It's Valentine's Day later this week and so to get you in the mood for love here's a selection of some of David Tennant's most romantic roles that you might want to check out...
1. The Decoy Bride
When the wedding of American film star Lara Tyler to tweedy English author James Arber (David Tennant) is sabotaged by a paparazzo, they decide to relocate the event to the one place where the world's press won't find them: the sleepy Scottish Island of Hegg.
However, dilapidated buildings and greedy islanders are the least of the problems that the wedding party and their Hollywood entourage have to deal with, as Marco the ingenious paparazzo tracks them down in his mission to photograph the celebrity wedding of the year. To throw Marco off the scent, Lara's P.A Steve Korbitz and his assistant Emma devise a plan to use a decoy bride and think that local girl Katie will be perfect for the job. But when James meets Katie, sparks fly, dresses get ruined and love gets complicated. Can an ordinary girl fill the most famous Manolos on the planet?'
2. 96 Ways To Say I Love You
96 Ways To Say I Love You, is a comedy short with a twist written and directed by Daisy Aitkens.
David Tennant plays Mark in the 11-minute film, one of a number of couples trying to explain the meaning and implications of the phrase 'I Love You', set against the background story of Al and Olive (Joel Fry and Georgia Moffett, who also produced the film) who are trying to pluck up the courage to speak those three words for the first time. With their so-called friends trying to talk them out of it, will they see the task through?
3. Much Ado About Nothing
The summer of 2011 saw David Tennant and Catherine Tate appear together on stage for the first time in a brand new production of William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Two young lovers Claudio and Hero are to be married imminently but the devious scheming of a resentful Prince looks set to thwart the nuptials. Meanwhile, marriage seems inconceivable for reluctant lovers Beatrice and Benedick whose endless witty sparring threatens to keep them apart forever. Directed by Josie Rourke, Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s great plays and reminds us all of the failings and triumphs of the human condition in our never ending search for perfect love.
4. Blackpool
Ripley Holden, the ambitious, bullying arcade owner who believes strongly in luck, and who is planning to turn his arcade into a Las Vegas-style casino hotel and thus revive Blackpool's fortunes;
DI Peter Carlisle (David Tennant), the investigating officer of the murder: a charming and good-natured, although extremely manipulative, police officer, who dislikes Holden almost on sight;
Natalie Holden, Ripley's shy, frustrated and lonely wife, whom Ripley takes for granted and to whom Carlisle takes a shine to; Shyanne Holden; Ripley and Natalie's spoilt daughter, who worships her doting father but is cruel and distant to her mother; and Danny Holden; Ripley and Natalie's troubled and awkward son, who is constantly belittled by his father.
As the investigation proceeds, it takes its toll on the characters; Ripley, under suspicion of murder, finds his public and private life slowly unravelling as both his bullying nature and long-forgotten demons from his past return to bite him, whilst Carlisle, intent on proving Ripley is the murderer and planning to use Natalie to get to him, finds himself genuinely falling in love with her instead.
5. LA Without A Map
Vacationing in the North of England, aspiring Los Angeles actress Barbara stops briefly in a village where she meets town undertaker and obituary writer Richard (David Tennant) - who just can't stop thinking about her. Flying to California, Richard arrives at the Japanese restaurant where Barbara is a waitress, and a relationship begins - while Richard learns about Hollywood at the hands of various hustlers and agents.
6. Traffic Warden
The 2004 romantic comedy short, Traffic Warden, which starred David Tennant alongside the future Mrs Benedict Cumberbatch, Sophie Hunter, is silent, but makes use of a clever array of props and signage to tell a witty and heartfelt tale.
7. Casanova
As an elderly librarian, Giacomo Casanova, has a lot of exciting memories. A young servant girl, Edith, is treated to his lurid recollections and, before too long, she discovers that there's life in this old dog yet. It's enough to burst her bodice!
But this is nothing compared to the escapades of the young, hot and horny master of seduction. The youthful Casanova (David Tennant) cuts a swathe through the women of Europe with his dashing good looks and irrepressible confidence.
But though the ladies offer their full approval (usually expressed horizontally), the law is outraged by his antics. Made an outlaw for offences against government and church, Casanova leads the life of a fugitive.
8. True Love
How do you know if you’re with the love of your life?
David Tennant, Ashley Walters, Billie Piper, Jane Horrocks, and David Morrissey star in BBC1’s first ever improvised series, exploring five powerful and overlapping love stories set in the same town.
When it comes to love, there is never an easy "right answer" – telling the truth is complicated, and the conflict of desire and responsibility can be explosive.
These stories are life-affirming, visceral, provocative and compelling. Did the characters do the right thing in the end? What would you have done? The themes are universal, yet they provoke wildly different responses.
9. Spies Of Warsaw
At the French embassy, the new military attaché, Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier (David Tennant), a decorated war hero of the 1914 war, is drawn into a world of abduction, betrayal and intrigue in the diplomatic salons and back alleys of Warsaw.
At the same time, the handsome aristocrat finds himself in a passionate love affair with Anna, a Parisian lawyer for the League of Nations. Their complicated love affair intensifies as German tanks drive through the Black Forest.
Spies Of Warsaw is a combination of historically located, intelligent narratives, interlaced with flawed, romantic and utterly compelling characters.
10. Learners
Bev is a downtrodden housewife who's failed her driving test eight times, having only been instructed by her impatient husband Ian. After registering with a driving school, she develops a crush on her instructor, Chris.
