Moscow has accused Washington of sabotaging the Syria ceasefire deal, saying that the US will be responsible for any new terror attacks in Syria, as by taking no action against Al-Nusra terrorists it shows it is ready “to make a deal with the devil.”
Washington “has never exerted any real pressure on Jabhat Al-Nusra, done nothing for delineation to succeed and taken no action against its militants,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday, following the US decision to suspend cooperation on Syria.
Besides failing to deliver on its part of the deal, the US were hampering Moscow’s efforts to stop the terrorists, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, calling Washington’s decision a “reflection” of the Obama administration’s inability to meet the key condition for Russia-US cooperation on the Syrian peace process.
The way the situation has been unraveling in Syria in the past few weeks has made Moscow doubt what Washington’s real intentions are, according to the ministry.
“We are becoming more convinced that in a pursuit of a much desired regime change in Damascus, Washington is ready to ‘make a deal with the devil’,” the Foreign Ministry said. For the sake of ousting Syrian President Bashar Assad, the US appears to be ready to “forge an alliance with hardened terrorists, dreaming of turning back the course of history.”
While Jabhat Al-Nusra, a designated terrorist organization, has been known as an Al-Qaeda affiliate for many years, Washington “is not in a hurry to separate US-oriented anti-government forces from it,”Moscow points out. On the contrary, even though Al-Nusra has never been a part of any peace deal, Washington “covers it with the shield of opposition groups which formally confirmed their participation in the cessation of hostilities.”
Following Russia's decree to end their joint nuclear deweaponization program with the US, the US State Department announced Monday that Washington has suspended bilateral contact with Moscow.
America has “suspended” bilateral contacts with Russia over the Syrian crisis, the US State Department said.

US officials had threatened for a week to withdraw from the Syrian peace process, after the latest ceasefire negotiated by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary of State John Kerry collapsed amid bloody fighting.
While contacts between US and Russian military to “deconflict” encounters between their aircraft in Syrian skies will continue, the US is withdrawing personnel that was dispatched for the purpose of setting up the Joint Implementation Center (JIC) for the ceasefire, agencies reported citing the State Department.
There is "nothing more for the US and Russia to talk about" in Syria, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters on Monday.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin suspended Moscow’s participation in a program for disposing of plutoniumfrom decommissioned nuclear warheads, citing “the radical change in the environment, a threat to strategic stability posed by the hostile actions of the US against Russia, and the inability of the US to deliver on the obligation to dispose of excessive weapons plutonium under international treaties.”
After days of threats, the U.S. officially cut off negotiations with Russia over the Syrian civil war on Monday, the cessation of talks coming only hours after Russia backed out of a joint deal with the U.S. to dispose of nuclear material.
In a statement released Monday afternoon, State Department spokesperson John Kirby accused Russia of "intensified attacks against civilian areas" and being responsible for a Sept. 19 attack on a humanitarian aid convoy.
"This is not a decision that was taken lightly," Kirby said in the statement. "The United States spared no effort in negotiating and attempting to implement an arrangement with Russia aimed at reducing violence, providing unhindered humanitarian access, and degrading terrorist organizations operating in Syria...Unfortunately, Russia failed to live up to its own commitments."
As part of the suspension, the U.S. is withdrawing personnel that it had dispatched to take part in the creation of a joint U.S.-Russia center. That center was to have coordinated military cooperation and intelligence if the ceasefire had taken hold. The suspension will not affect communications between the two countries aimed at de-conflicting counter-terrorism operations in Syria.
President Vladimir Putin earlier Monday suspended a Russia-U.S. deal on the disposal of weapons-grade plutonium. Putin's decree released by the Kremlin cited Washington's "unfriendly actions" and the United States' inability to fulfill its obligations under the 2000 deal as reasons for the move.
Commenting on Putin's move, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday that the U.S. has "done all it could to destroy the atmosphere encouraging cooperation." It cited U.S. sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian crisis and the deployment of NATO forces near Russian borders as examples.
Western media declares war on Syria
While bullets and bombs fly all across Aleppo, barbed words are flying in national press conferences and electrons in cyberspace, with Western media trying to portray the Syrian coalition as if it were invading a neighboring country to loot and pillage, as opposed to driving terrorists out of its own territory. We have seen all of the old anti-Damsacus propaganda smears in action, including the age-old barrel bomb and gas attack stories, with the usual jihadi false flag executed ones, where they rush in to shoot media for the press.
But the Syrian coalition is not flinching. The bitter taste of US duplicity still remains after its total failure to control its opposition and terrorist proxies as it had pledged in the agreements with Russia, and as we could read in the full report released on Tuesday.
The US-sponsored insurgents refused to disengage from their former al-Nursa compatriots, including those that signed onto the ceasefire for the expected air cover it would provide them. It did not take long to learn that FSA and former al-Nusra people fighting under the Army of Conquest black flag were not about to disengage from each other. That idea has been a bad joke, and is now exposed to the world.
From the EU in Brussels we have comments devoid of any professional discipline, using age old propaganda slogans like, “indiscriminate suffering”, “breach of international humanitarian law”, “fire bombing and shelling”, and “deliberate targeting of an aid convoy last week”. Ouch!
This last charge was over the top, as its clear inference was that Syria or Russia were responsible when not only has no proof whatsoever been submitted by anyone to validate the claim, but even the UN people in the convoy claim they cannot say for certain who was responsible.
Threats began leaking out today from unnamed US officials that the Syrian ground assault could trigger the US Gulf State allies to provide advanced weapons to al-Nusra and IS. This was nothing more than a sham to cover that they and Turkey have already been doing that. Where do people think the Jihadi tanks, APC’s and armor piercing munitions have been coming from? Have smugglers been hiding tanks in aid convoys?
It is true that large numbers of MANPADS have not yet been introduced, as the Western coalition knows they would immediately be black-marketed to the highest bidder, and would work their way toward being used against civilian aircraft near any number of airports, especially in Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday suspended a treaty with Washington on cleaning up weapons-grade plutonium, signaling he is willing to use nuclear disarmament as a new bargaining chip in disputes with the United States over Ukraine and Syria.
Starting in the last years of the Cold War, Russia and the United States signed a series of accords to reduce the size of their nuclear arsenals, agreements that have so far survived intact despite a souring of U.S.-Russian relations under Putin.
But on Monday, Putin issued a decree suspending an agreement, concluded in 2000, which bound the two sides to dispose of surplus plutonium originally intended for use in nuclear weapons.
The Kremlin said it was taking that action in response to unfriendly acts by Washington.
